Oatmeal on rotten restaurant websites

February 21st, 2011 • Posted by Seth Gardenswartz • Permalink

The Oatmeal is a web-savy comic for people use the web in their everyday life. Last week it took at very accurate shot at the bloated and undigested websites so common in our industry. You can see the comic here. His point is simple: unless you are already internationally famous, most people go to your website for accurate information about your business. They want it quickly and intuitively. They want to know where you are and how to get there. They want a link to an online map. They want to see your current menu, without the "*" that means "this menu gets updated every time we renew our drivers license." They want to know when you are open and if they can do something online like make a reservation, buy a gift card or leave a comment. They also may want to share your information with their friends. Instead they get a unhelpful, self-indulgent mess which makes them feel like a rat in a maze.

Most restaurant websites are all wrapper and no filling. Is that what you are serving?

There is a better way.

You can build get a great website for your restaurant. Don't wait.
